J U N E – BY THE SEA FOR ME

Time for our annual trip to the amazing waters of the Adriatic and spending time along the Dalmatian Coast, near the ancient fortress city of Šibenik, founded in the 9th century. The Old Town remains a jewel and it is well-worth wandering the narrow streets and discovering more of its history. You will understand the pride of the locals and understand too why it was fought over by the Hungarians, Byzantines, Bosnians, Herzegovinians as well as the Venetians, who knew a good thing when they found it and stayed for more than three centuries.

I enjoy the ferry boat rides to visit the city…

You never know whom you might meet. A chance encounter and chat while waiting for the First Ferry of the Season (a big deal for some of us :) – led to a day spent together with Maja, the artist from Zagreb (see Maja Genc and her work on saatchiart.com) and Sascha, concept + video artist from Vienna (http://www.kanonmedia.com) We discussed some great ideas for future Workshops.

Here we are, the four of us, standing outside the delightful Gallery – Galerija Juraj Dalmatinac (artgalleryjurajdalmatinac on Instagram)

along with the lovely gallerist – Ana..!

June 15 was the start of the annual:

International Childrens’ Festival in Šibenik and I love seeing the colourful self-portraits by the children hanging up all over the Old Town for us to admire. The Festival has been ongoing for four decades and draws international artists and performers from the arts, music and theatre here to work with the children. For more info:

Later on, I enjoyed returning to the tranquility of our beach location where the sea and the views are the main attractions…(pardon me while I take a break and jump back into the beckoning blue waters)!

In between my visits to Šibenik (She-ben-ik), and swimming in the sea, I have been…painting of course!

It was great to catch up with friend Iva who is a makeup artist for a theater in Zagreb and spends time down here by the sea when she can. (She has an adorable small house just three minutes walk from the water’s edge, and rents it out – so let me know if you are interested :)

L O N D O N!!!!

Meanwhile, Shibani – my friend and co-partner at A O K has been happily running around London in the company of her daughter.

She sent me these pics to show us what she has been up to:

Museums, art galleries and Street Art.

In July, we will meet up again in Warsaw.

Happy travels to you all out there!
